Installing CloudLinux OS is essentially the same as installing Red Hat, CentOS or AlmaLinux. However, we can also convert an existing server if it meets the requirements.
Upgrading existing servers
Sometimes it is necessary to convert existing AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux or CentOS servers to the CloudLinux operating system. For CloudLinux OS 10, this is the primary method of installation.
You can easily convert your existing installation using the cldeploy script. The process takes a few minutes and only replaces a handful of RPMs.
Please note: Unlike a fresh installation, a CloudLinux OS licence is required immediately for the conversion!
Requirements
Operating systems currently supported for conversion:
- AlmaLinux OS 8, 9, 10
- Rocky Linux 8, 9 (removing CloudLinux and reverting to Rocky Linux is not supported)
- CentOS 7
The migration retains the main version: CentOS 7 will become CloudLinux OS 7, for which regular support ended on 30 June 2024. CentOS 8, CentOS Stream and Rocky Linux 10 cannot be migrated. In the case of CentOS 8, the server must first be migrated to AlmaLinux 8 using the almalinux-deploy script, after which cldeploy can be run.
Supported control panels:
- cPanel
- Plesk
- DirectAdmin
- CyberPanel
- InterWorx
- Webuzo
- AdminBolt
Other control panels: Control panels not listed in the list of supported panels either have native integration or have been integrated by the developer of the panel in question. We cannot guarantee the stability or correct functioning of CloudLinux components on such panels.
Warning: It may be the case that certain CloudLinux components are not supported by the control panel itself, or that the control panel has its own equivalent for such a component. You can check this when reviewing the system requirements for installing the relevant CloudLinux component.
Downloading and running the conversion script
Please download the script as the root user:
yum install wget -y
wget https://repo.cloudlinux.com/cloudlinux/sources/cln/cldeploy
Key-based activation
If you wish to use your activation key to activate your service, run the following command:
bash cldeploy -k ACTIVATION_KEY
Where ACTIVATION_KEY is the licence key you have purchased. The version of CloudLinux OS is automatically recognised based on the ACTIVATION_KEY.
IP-based activation
If you have an IP-based licence, run one of the following commands.
Upgrading the server to CloudLinux OS Legacy or Shared Pro edition:
bash cldeploy -i
Upgrading the server to the CloudLinux OS Admin edition (for IP-based Admin licences):
bash cldeploy -i --to-admin-edition
Next steps
After a successful conversion, restart the system by running the following command:
reboot
After the reboot, your server should be running CloudLinux OS with the LVE kernel.
You can check the kernel that has been started using the following command:
uname -r
Note: SELinux is not supported on CloudLinux OS 6 and 7. SELinux is supported on CloudLinux OS 8+, but it may not work or may not be compatible with control panels and various components.
New installation
All CloudLinux OS editions can be installed using a single ISO and source.
- CloudLinux OS 9: https://www.repo.cloudlinux.com/cloudlinux/9/iso/x86_64/
- CloudLinux OS 8: https://www.repo.cloudlinux.com/cloudlinux/8/iso/x86_64/
There is no installation ISO for CloudLinux OS 10: for a new CloudLinux OS 10 server, install AlmaLinux 10 first, then convert it as described above.
Several types of ISO are available:
- CloudLinux-*-boot.iso: this ISO image is specifically designed for network installation and does not contain any packages.
- CloudLinux-*-dvd1.iso: this contains all the packages from the network installation repository, so you can set up any possible configuration without network access.
- CloudLinux-*-minimal.iso: this contains only the minimum packages required for a basic server setup, without a GUI or developer tools.
Installation using the graphical user interface
The graphical installation interface is the preferred method for manually installing CloudLinux OS. It allows you to exercise full control over all available settings, including disk partitioning and storage configuration.
By default, the system uses graphical mode when booting from a local storage device. Mount and boot the disk image, then follow the steps.
The installation process is exactly the same as that for AlmaLinux.
Licence activation
To register your CloudLinux OS server on the CloudLinux network, run the following command using your activation key:
yum install rhn-setup
/usr/sbin/rhnreg_ks --activationkey=<activation key>
Where the <activation key> looks like 1231-fghdfhdhrtr.
If you have an IP-based licence, use the clnreg_ks command instead:
yum install rhn-setup
/usr/sbin/clnreg_ks --force
