One year, two certificates. The prices are annual fees, but from 15 March 2026, an SSL certificate will be valid for a maximum of 200 days. We will therefore issue a new certificate free of charge for the remaining 165 days of the year, ensuring your website remains protected throughout the year. From 15 March 2027, the validity period will be reduced to 100 days, so you will receive a new certificate more frequently.

Features of our SSL certificates

Quick issuance

Domain-validated certificates can be issued in as little as 5 minutes; domain verification is carried out via email, DNS records or a verification file.

Free reissue

The certificate can be reissued free of charge at any time during the subscription period via the client portal, so even the shorter validity period does not incur any additional costs.

Automatic installation

If the domain is hosted on our cPanel hosting service, the portal will generate the key and the CSR, and once the certificate has been issued, it will also install it in cPanel.

Wide compatibility

Certificates are recognised and accepted by all modern browsers, as well as Android and iOS devices, so your visitors won’t receive any warnings.

Certificate in the company’s name

With the BusinessTrust certificate, the issuer also verifies your company’s details, and the company name is included on the certificate, which helps to build trust on online shops and corporate websites.

Warranty

The issuer provides a guarantee of 50,000 dollars for the certificates and 250,000 dollars for the BusinessTrust certificate against any losses arising from incorrect issuance.

What is SSL, and why do you need it?

An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between the visitor’s browser and your website, and verifies that the visitor is actually on your site.

Encrypted connection

SSL stands for ‘Secure Sockets Layer’; nowadays, its successor, the TLS protocol, handles the encryption, but the certificates are still referred to as SSL. With a certificate, the website can be accessed via HTTPS: data such as passwords, form submissions and credit card details are transmitted in encrypted form, so that nobody can read or alter them whilst in transit.

What is the difference between TLS and SSL?

Trust and search engine ranking

Browsers display websites without a certificate as ‘Not secure’, which deters visitors, particularly on an online shop. Google also takes HTTPS into account as a ranking factor, so having a certificate improves a website’s position in search engines. These days, it is recommended for all websites, not just online shops.

DV, OV, Wildcard and Multi-Domain

With a Domain Validated (DV) certificate, the issuer only checks that you have control over the domain, which is why it is issued quickly. With an Organisation Validated (OV) certificate, the issuer also verifies the company’s details. A Wildcard certificate protects a domain and all its subdomains, whilst a Multi-Domain certificate protects several different domains with a single certificate.

What is an OV certificate?

SSL Questions and Answers

SSL issues

How long does it take to issue an SSL certificate?

Domain-validated (DV) certificates – namely Domain, Multi-Domain and Wildcard SSL certificates – are issued automatically, and this can take as little as 5 minutes once the domain has been verified. The time taken to issue the certificate depends largely on how quickly ownership of the domain can be verified: via email confirmation, a DNS record or a verification file.

With the BusinessTrust certificate, the issuer also verifies your company’s details; this usually takes 1–3 working days.

Methods of domain validation

What does the warranty cover?

The warranty is a commitment on the part of the certificate issuer. If the issuer, through its own fault – for example, due to inadequate checks – issues a certificate to an unauthorised person, and this results in financial loss to visitors to your website, the issuer will compensate for this up to the amount of the warranty. Whilst this rarely occurs in practice, it clearly demonstrates the extent of the issuer’s responsibility for the verification process: this is why the BusinessTrust certificate, which involves an organisational audit, carries a higher guarantee amount.

Which type will I need?

A Domain SSL certificate is more than enough for a single website on a single domain. If you want to secure several different domains with a single certificate – for example, cegnev.hu and cegnev.com – Multi-Domain SSL is the right choice. If you have lots of subdomains (shop., blog., mail.), a Wildcard SSL certificate covers them all, including the main domain cegnev.hu.

For online shops, financial websites or corporate sites, we recommend **BusinessTrust **SSL: with this certificate, the certificate authority also verifies the company’s existence, and the company name is included in the certificate.

How is it different from the free Let's Encrypt certificate?

The strength of the encryption is the same; the difference lies in the service. A paid certificate comes with a warranty; an organisational (OV) validation option is also available; and you can install it on systems where automatic Let’s Encrypt renewal does not work, such as a mail server or a load balancer. Our hosting plans come with a free Let’s Encrypt certificate, which is sufficient for most websites.

Let's Encrypt or a paid SSL certificate?

How do I install the certificate?

If the domain is hosted on our cPanel hosting service, you can set up the certificate via the client portal using the automatic installation feature: the portal generates the private key and the CSR, carries out the validation, and, once issued, installs the certificate into cPanel. For other servers, you can request the certificate using your own CSR and download it once it has been issued.

Setting up a paid SSL certificate

Why does the certificate need to be reissued during the subscription period?

Following a joint decision by browser manufacturers and certificate authorities, from 15 March 2026 a certificate will be valid for a maximum of 200 days, and this period will be further reduced in subsequent years. Therefore, even under an annual subscription, the certificate will need to be reissued, which is free of charge: you can see when the next one is due on the certificate page of the client portal.

Why is the validity period being shortened?
