The two most common solutions for running applications and storing ever-increasing volumes of data are dedicated and virtual servers. Both have their advantages; the points below will help you decide which is better suited to your project.
A dedicated server is a complete, high-performance physical machine that is used exclusively by you. A virtual server (VPS) is a virtual machine running on a physical machine but isolated from it: the hardware is shared by several VPSs, but each runs with its own guaranteed allocation of processor power, memory and storage, its own operating system and its own IP address, and is dedicated to a single customer.
Buying your own server is expensive, and you also need cooling, an uninterruptible power supply, networking equipment and a specialist to manage it. With a rented dedicated server, there are no capital costs; we take care of hardware maintenance and replacement. A VPS is even cheaper, as it uses less hardware, so for smaller projects it costs a fraction of the monthly cost of a dedicated server.
A dedicated server provides ample resources, but you also pay for unused capacity, and if you outgrow it, setting up a new machine takes time. A VPS is ready in a matter of minutes, and you can switch to a larger plan at any time, so you can start small and scale up when you really need to.
Both solutions are reliable and fast. If raw performance is the top priority, a dedicated server is the better choice: you have the entire hardware to yourself, and you can opt for a more powerful machine than is available with VPS. A VPS, on the other hand, is independent of any specific physical machine, so it can be migrated more quickly in the event of a hardware failure, which is an advantage for applications that require continuous availability.
With the right settings, both solutions are secure. However, some companies – particularly those handling sensitive data – opt for a dedicated server for compliance reasons, as the hardware is not shared with anyone else. Separation between VPS instances is ensured by KVM hardware virtualisation, whilst server security in both cases depends primarily on the settings and regular updates.
A dedicated server offers higher performance and complete isolation, but is more expensive and takes longer to upgrade. A virtual server is more flexible, scales more quickly and is much more affordable. The two solutions can also be combined effectively: for example, the database can run on a dedicated server, whilst the web layer runs on VPSs.
For most websites and apps, a VPS is sufficient: it’s cheaper, can be set up in a matter of minutes, and can be scaled up at any time. You should opt for a dedicated server if you need to handle a consistently high workload, require large storage capacity (for example, multiple HDDs for backups) or need physically isolated hardware.
The KVM VPS runs Linux, which you manage via SSH, and there are no licence fees. The Windows VPS comes with a licensed copy of Windows Server; you manage it via remote desktop, and it is designed to run Windows-based applications such as ASP.NET or MSSQL.
In that case, choose our managed VPS service, where we take care of the system administration tasks: updates, security settings, web server operation and, if required, CI/CD processes. If you’d like to run websites via the cPanel interface, a dedicated cPanel server is also a good option.
Yes, all VPS and dedicated servers come with DDoS protection, which filters out overload attacks at network level, ensuring that your services remain accessible even during an attack.
No, the prices shown on the website are net monthly fees and do not include VAT. You can order KVM VPS servers with either quarterly or half-yearly payment plans; dedicated servers are subject to a one-off set-up fee.
