KVM VPS services

High performance

The VPSs are powered by servers featuring AMD Epyc processors and PCIe NVMe SSD storage, ensuring that your applications run quickly and reliably.

My own environment

You are free to use all the VPS’s resources. You’ll be given full root access, so you can set up your own software environment or choose from pre-installed systems.

No hardware issues

You don’t have to worry about hardware maintenance, replacing parts or technical faults, but you do have full control over your virtual server.

2 Gbps, with unlimited data

Traffic is unlimited, so you can run services that require high bandwidth at no extra cost.

99.9% SLA

VPSs are suitable for running business applications and online shops: they offer a low-latency network, and we guarantee 99.9% availability under our SLA.

Backup and snapshot

We carry out daily backups of the VPSs, and you can take a snapshot at any time, so even a major update won’t come as an unpleasant surprise.

What is KVM?

The KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is part of the Linux kernel, which transforms the physical server into a hypervisor: it allows you to run multiple, completely isolated virtual machines on a single machine, each with its own kernel, memory and virtual hardware.

KVM utilises the hardware virtualisation capabilities of processors (AMD-V, Intel VT-x), which is why virtual machines run at almost the same speed as the physical hardware. As it is open-source and evolves alongside the Linux kernel, even the largest cloud service providers rely on it.

In practice, this means that your KVM VPS behaves just like a dedicated server: the guaranteed processor and memory resources cannot be taken away by other customers, you can run your own kernel, and you can also install software that would not work on a container-based VPS.

A wide range of Linux distributions

For your KVM VPS, you can choose from AlmaLinux, CloudLinux, Debian, Rocky Linux and Ubuntu, so you can find the system that best suits your needs. Ubuntu and Debian are favourites amongst developers; AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux are Red Hat-compatible systems with long-term support; whilst CloudLinux offers extra isolation for hosting services.

Even for other operating systems

KVM hardware virtualisation is suitable for running almost any operating system, whether it be Linux, BSD or more specialised systems. The guest system operates fully and with high performance, as if it were running directly on the physical server, which provides great flexibility in both development and production environments. If you require a system not listed here, please contact us.

Support for Docker and LXC

On a KVM VPS, you can run both Docker and LXC containers, allowing you to easily install, update and isolate your containerised applications from one another. Developers and system administrators can manage multiple services on a single server, each in its own environment, whilst the containers make full use of the VPS’s performance.

Docker Swarm or Kubernetes?

The first steps

Once you’ve placed your order, the VPS will be set up with your chosen operating system, and you’ll receive your login details by email. As a first step, it’s a good idea to set up SSH key-based access, configure the firewall and update the system. Our knowledge base provides step-by-step guidance on this, and you can also find information there on backups and upgrades.

VPS FAQs

KVM VPS enquiries

What is a VPS, and what is it used for?

A virtual private server (VPS) can be used to run websites (online shops, blogs, file storage) and software applications (accounting software, CRM, internal systems). Unlike shared hosting, a VPS is a dedicated virtual machine whose resources are exclusively yours, and on which you can install anything with full root access.

A VPS offers a good compromise between hosting plans and physical servers: it provides the same level of freedom and performance as dedicated servers, but you don’t have to worry about managing, replacing or repairing the physical hardware.

Who are VPS solutions designed for?

Using a VPS requires basic system administration skills: you will need to configure and maintain the operating system installed on the machine, as well as its updates, firewall and applications.

If you need a VPS but don’t have the technical knowledge or the time, choose our managed VPS service, where we take care of running the server for you. If you’d like to run websites using the familiar cPanel interface, a dedicated cPanel server could be the right solution for you.

Managed VPS Dedicated cPanel server

Can I host more than one website on a VPS?

Yes. You can run several websites or projects on a VPS, each in a separate directory, with a separate user account and its own settings, and you decide how the resources are allocated. To make management easier, you can also install a control panel, such as cPanel, Plesk or a free alternative.

Which operating system should I choose for my VPS?

When making a choice, the most important factors are familiarity, the requirements of the software you wish to run, the support period and security. Of the most widely used Linux distributions on servers, Ubuntu and Debian offer the benefit of large communities and a wealth of documentation; AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux are systems compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux that offer long-term support; whilst CloudLinux provides extra isolation for web hosting servers.

If your application requires Windows Server – for example, because it uses ASP.NET or MSSQL – a Windows VPS that comes with a licensed copy of Windows Server is the right choice.

What services can I run on a VPS?

You can run almost anything on a VPS that runs on Linux. Here are a few common examples:

  • Websites and online shops: you can host multiple websites on a web server tailored to your specific needs (Apache, Nginx, LiteSpeed).
  • Databases: A MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL server for your web applications.
  • Programming languages and applications: Applications based on PHP, Python, Ruby, Node.js, Java or Go.
  • Email server: your own email server for your domains.
  • VPN: A WireGuard or OpenVPN server for secure remote access.
  • Cloud storage: for example, Nextcloud for storing and sharing files.
  • Containers: Docker- or LXC-based applications and development environments.
  • Game servers: your own server for your friends or your community.
What is the difference between PCIe NVMe and a conventional SSD?

Both are based on flash memory and are much faster than a conventional hard disk. The difference lies in the interface: traditional SSDs connect via the SATA interface, which allows for a maximum transfer rate of around 550 MB/s, whilst NVMe drives connect directly to the PCIe bus, enabling them to achieve speeds several times higher – up to several thousand MB/s.

From a server perspective, it is just as important that the NVMe protocol can handle many requests in parallel; as a result, it can handle far more read and write operations (IOPS) and has lower latency. This translates into noticeably faster performance for databases, websites handling large numbers of small files, and resource-intensive applications.

What is the difference between a daily backup and a snapshot?

We carry out daily backups automatically, every day, so you can restore a previous daily state if necessary. You create a snapshot whenever you need to, for example before a system update or a major change: if something goes wrong, you can revert to the previous state in a matter of minutes.

Where is my VPS located?

Our KVM VPSs are hosted in our European Union data centre, which features redundant power supplies and network connections. You can read more about our data centres and our network.

Can I upgrade my VPS’s resources at a later date?

Yes, you can upgrade to a larger plan at any time via the client portal, which will increase your processor, memory and storage capacity. Our knowledge base explains when it’s worth upgrading and what to do after expanding your storage.
