Web Free is not a trial version, but a fully-fledged, free web hosting plan with no time limit. It runs on the same KeyHelp-based system as the paid web hosting plans: on an AMD Ryzen server with NVMe SSD storage, using PHP versions 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5. The difference lies in the limitations, which are worth being aware of before building a website on it.
What does Web Free include?
| Parameter | Web Free |
|---|---|
| Storage | 1 GB NVMe SSD |
| Monthly traffic | 100 GB |
| Domain | 1 unit (unlimited subdomains) |
| MySQL database | 1 item |
| Email account | 1 item, with 1 redirect |
| FTP account | 1 item |
| PHP memory limit | 128 MB |
| Free SSL, HTTP/2, spam filtering, DDoS protection | Yes |
| Backup | None |
SSH and Git access are not available with any of the web hosting plans, so this is not a feature specific to the Web Free plan.
What is it for?
For a personal website, a small blog or a portfolio linked to an email address, 1 GB of storage and 100 GB of monthly traffic may well be sufficient in the long term. It can even accommodate a simple WordPress site, provided it doesn’t use too many plugins or large images. You can also enable the free Let’s Encrypt certificate on the Web Free plan.
What you need to bear in mind
- No backups are provided. We do not create backups for the Web Free plan, so please make your own regular copies of your files and database (via FTP, phpMyAdmin or a backup plugin) and store them off-site on your hosting account.
- 128 MB of PHP memory. This may not be enough for larger page builders and e-shop plugins: Elementor, for example, requires at least 256 MB. In paid plans, the limit is 512 MB.
- An email account. Emails take up space from the 1 GB storage quota, so a heavily used email account may, over time, take up space that could otherwise be used for the website.
When is it worth switching?
- if your storage space or monthly traffic is regularly approaching the limit;
- if you need a second domain, multiple databases or multiple email addresses;
- if the website returns an error due to the memory limit (“Allowed memory size exhausted”);
- If the website is already generating revenue, it is important to ensure that automatic backups are taken of it.
The Web Starter plan includes 5 GB of storage, unlimited traffic, 3 databases, 5 email accounts, 512 MB of PHP memory and a backup. You can find all the specifications in the web hosting plan comparison, whilst the guide on website hosting and bandwidth requirements will help you estimate your likely needs.
You can initiate the change via the client portal; your website, database and emails will remain intact after the package change. If you switch to a different hosting type, such as cPanel hosting, we will also carry out the migration.
