The 3/2022 edition of the CENTRstats Global TLD Report has been published1. The report presents the global status and registration trends for all top-level domains (legacy gTLDs, new gTLDs and ccTLDs), with a particular focus on the European ccTLD market.

Key points of the report:

  • According to estimates, the European market comprises 115 million domain registrations, of which 58 per cent are national ccTLDs, 31 per cent are .com domains and 11 per cent are other gTLDs.
  • Demand for European ccTLDs grew in the third quarter of 2022, in line with last year and the years prior to the pandemic. The demand rate is currently driven to some extent by a decline in cancellations (contrasted with an increase in new domain registrations).
  • In the year ending October 2022, the median growth rate was 2.0% (compared with the 6-month average). The median renewal rate rose to 84.7%.
  • Retail prices for European ccTLD registrations have risen over the past 12 months, with the median price for recently registered domains standing at 10.2 EUR (including tax) – compared with 8.6 EUR 12 months ago.
  • The proportion of parked domains and those without web content remained stable at 26 per cent and 28 per cent respectively throughout the quarter. The proportion of domains used for developed web content was 46 per cent, of which 69 per cent have mandatory HTTPS (SSL certificate) – this represents a slight increase compared with the previous quarter.
