WordPress 6.7 ‘Rollins’ has been released

2 min read

WordPress 6.7 was released on 12 November 2024 under the codename ‘Rollins’, in honour of saxophonist Sonny Rollins, one of jazz’s greatest improvisers. The release introduces a new default theme, a full-page editor view and several design options previously only available via code.

Twenty Twenty-Five

The new default theme, Twenty Twenty-Five, is scalable from small blogs to larger websites. It features a wide variety of style variations, block layouts and colour palettes, yet remains focused on the essentials, making it a great starting point for a new site on your WordPress hosting.

Zoom out

In Zoom Out view, you can see the page from a distance and work with entire sections and templates: you can add, rearrange, swap or delete them, focusing on the page’s structure rather than the details.

Connecting custom fields without code

The Block Bindings API, introduced in version 6.5, now has a user interface: you can link blocks to custom fields with just a few clicks, allowing you to configure dynamic content directly within the editor, without having to write your own blocks or code.

Font size settings

A new section in the Styles panel manages font sizes: you can create, edit, delete and apply size presets, override the template’s defaults, and with fluid typography, the font size adapts to the screen width.

Performance

  • Faster sample loading and optimised previews in data views;
  • Improved PHP 8+ support and the removal of obsolete code;
  • sizes="auto" for images that load lazily, so that the browser can select an image variant based on the actual display size;
  • More efficient HTML processing in the HTML API.

Accessibility improvements include more than 65 fixes, ranging from keyboard navigation in the editor to an accessible title for the login page. Version 6.7 is compatible with PHP versions 7.2 to 8.4.

Update

Make a backup before updating, and if you use a lot of plugins, try it out on a staging site first. You can start the update from the Updates menu in the control panel or via WP Toolkit.

Backported security fixes for the 6.7 branch were last available in October 2026 with release 6.7.10, but officially only the latest major version is ever supported. Full details can be found in the 6.7 release notes and the developer’s guide.

The previous major release was WordPress 6.6 ‘Dorsey’; the next one will be WordPress 6.8 ‘Cecil’.
