The installation ISOs are now available for all four architectures on the mirrors:
AlmaLinux 9.5 aims to improve performance, development tools and security. The updated module stream provides better support for web applications. New versions of the compilers provide access to the latest features and optimisations, which improve performance and enable better code generation. The release also introduces improvements in the areas of system performance monitoring, visualisation and the collection of system performance data. Security updates are aimed at strengthening cryptography, whilst SELinux policies enforce stricter access controls. In addition, cryptographic policies offer stronger encryption, improving the system’s overall security.
Software versions in AlmaLinux 9.5
| Area | Versions |
|---|---|
| New packages | .NET 9.0, BIND 9.18 |

Node.js 22 can be installed via the module system:
dnf module reset nodejs
dnf module install nodejs:22
Security updates
- OpenSSL 3.2.2: supports certificate compression (RFC 8879) and Brainpool curves in TLS 1.3 (RFC 8734)
- NSS 3.101: the Network Security Services library has been updated
- crypto-policies: the system-wide encryption policy now extends to the choice of Java algorithms
- ca-certificates: root certificates from trusted certificate authorities are also available in OpenSSL library format
- SELinux: a new boolean switch that allows the QEMU Guest Agent to run restricted commands; this is useful for virtual servers
Support for older hardware
The extended hardware support introduced in version 9.4 continues: the aacraid, be2iscsi, be2net, hpsa, lpfc, megaraid_sas, mlx4_core, mpt3sas, mptsas, qla2xxx and qla4xxx drivers once again recognise older controllers and cards that had been disabled in the upstream version. The full list can be found in the release notes.
ISO verification and updating
wget https://repo.almalinux.org/almalinux/RPM-GPG-KEY-AlmaLinux-9
gpg --import RPM-GPG-KEY-AlmaLinux-9
wget https://vault.almalinux.org/9.5/isos/x86_64/CHECKSUM
gpg --verify CHECKSUM
sha256sum AlmaLinux-9.5-x86_64-boot.iso
The line ‘Good signature from “AlmaLinux OS 9”’ and the SHA256 value matching the CHECKSUM file indicate that the download is correct. Updating an existing AlmaLinux 9 system:
dnf upgrade -y
Users of the 9.5 beta should first install the final package repository (rpm -i https://vault.almalinux.org/9.5/BaseOS/x86_64/os/Packages/almalinux-repos-9.5-1.el9.x86_64.rpm --replacefiles), then run the command dnf upgrade -y. Our ELevate guide will help you migrate from AlmaLinux 8.
