Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

VPS 3 min read

The Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) sets out what our VPS and server services must not be used for. On a VPS or server, you have full root access and can install anything; the AUP sets out the limits to ensure that a customer’s activities do not jeopardise our network, other customers or third parties. Our services may only be used for lawful activities.

The contractual relationship is governed by the General Terms and Conditions (GTC); these terms and conditions set out the restrictions applicable to VPS and server services.

Prohibited activities

Breaches of this policy include, amongst other things, the following:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) The presence or distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) will result in the immediate termination of the account, and we will report the matter to the relevant authorities.
  • Deceptive or harmful activities, such as spam or phishing.
  • Disruption to our services or network infrastructure
  • Hosting of malicious software and phishing websites
  • We have a zero-tolerance policy towards DDoS and other network attacks, including port scans.
  • Use of TOR: TOR entry nodes are permitted, and TOR relay nodes / bridges are also allowed. TOR exit nodes and I2P outproxies are prohibited.
  • Trojan horses, botnet executable files, dropzones and botnet C&C servers.
  • Cryptocurrency mining activities
  • Unsolicited emails (SPAM)
  • Operating ‘fake shops’ (e.g. Nike, Adidas, Moncler).
  • Illegal content in Hungary or at your service location

What are its obligations under the General Terms and Conditions?

According to the ‘Declarations’ section of the General Terms and Conditions, by ordering the services, the customer declares, amongst other things, that:

  • shall not engage in any unlawful, breach-of-contract or unauthorised activity, including unauthorised intrusion into or attempted intrusion into another’s system, obstruction of operations and deliberate overloading;
  • shall not compromise the security of other computers or networks, shall not distribute viruses or worms, and shall not monitor or intercept data passing through the network;
  • does not send unsolicited advertising emails or other bulk mail (spam);
  • Keep the usernames and passwords required for the service confidential;
  • Do not use the service to harass others or infringe their rights.

According to the General Terms and Conditions, the customer may only install software that is legally compliant and for which they hold a licence, and bears full responsibility for any content they store, send or make available.

What are the consequences of a breach?

In accordance with the General Terms and Conditions:

  • If a customer’s activities hinder or jeopardise the intended use of the service by other customers, we may restrict the service without prior notice;
  • In the case of customers sending unsolicited bulk emails, the General Terms and Conditions stipulate that the service shall be suspended, and we shall prevent any further sending;
  • We can place virus-infected content in quarantine, whilst simultaneously notifying the customer;
  • In the event of a breach of the General Terms and Conditions or the Code of Conduct, or in the event of unlawful conduct, we may terminate the contract with immediate effect, or cancel or suspend the order.

Any restriction or suspension does not affect the obligation to pay fees.

Practical advice

Rules are not only breached intentionally: spam or attacks can also originate from a compromised, unpatched server. Therefore:

  • Keep your system up to date and only open the necessary ports; our article on firewall configuration will help you with this;
  • Do not send newsletters from the server itself, but use a dedicated newsletter service for this purpose;
  • If you are unsure whether a planned use (such as a network service or a security test) is permitted, please contact our support team via the client portal before proceeding.
