A few words about VPSs

2 min read

Would you like to set up your own website, or are you looking for a more secure and faster platform for an existing one? In that case, it’s worth finding out more about VPS hosting, which could solve a whole host of your problems at once.

What exactly is VPS hosting, why is it beneficial for our website, and when is it actually recommended to choose this option? We’ll answer these questions below!

What is VPS hosting?

VPS hosting, also known as VPS hosting, is simply a virtual private server. Hence the abbreviation: Virtual Private Server, or VPS. It is an excellent choice in situations where you need actual server support but are unable to purchase or operate a physical server.

It is important to realise that physical servers incur a host of other costs (storage, maintenance, general operation), whilst it is not certain that a given website will be able to utilise their full capacity. With a VPS, you can have a virtual server for a fraction of the cost of traditional servers, which is perfectly capable of meeting even the needs of a larger business.

How does VPS hosting work?

Generally speaking, VPS hosting works exactly the same as a traditional server, with the only difference being that the physical server is not owned by us. Its efficiency, however, is beyond question.

It is equally ideal for data storage, hosting your entire website, running an email system, and even running databases or CRM systems. It can also handle backups and any other tasks that require server infrastructure.

Another reason for its great popularity is that, with VPS, owners are granted full access to the server, meaning that administrative and installation tasks can be tailored entirely to the tenant’s requirements.

What’s more, the VPS servers are scalable, so they can be upgraded with extra hosting or memory at any time as required, without the need for installation or waiting for days; requests of this nature are typically processed within a few hours.

When is VPS hosting necessary?

VPS hosting is often essential. This is the case, for example, if, as an existing or prospective website owner, you need to run software that traditional hosting services cannot cope with.

As well as providing extra resources, a VPS is a cost-effective alternative in such situations, but it is also the ideal solution when you want to host a website with high traffic, which a standard hosting plan would be unable to handle at all – or only with significant delays – during peak periods.

A VPS can, of course, also replace in-house corporate or office servers. This is also a very cost-effective alternative, as expenditure is reduced whilst maintenance, repair and operational costs are eliminated.

A VPS is still a good choice even when speed and availability are important. If a major problem arises with our virtual server, another one takes over in the background within seconds – something that could cause serious headaches with a physical server.
