CloudLinux OS 8.10 has been released

2 min read

On 30 May 2024, the CloudLinux team announced the stable release of CloudLinux OS 8.10, two days after AlmaLinux 8.10. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10 is the final point release of the 8 series, so CloudLinux 8 also enters the phase of receiving only security and bug-fix updates with this release.

Key changes

  • Kernel version: 4.18.0-553.lve.el8
  • LVE kernel module: kmod-lve-2.1-26
  • Updated module streams: Python 3.12, Ruby 3.3, PHP 8.2, nginx 1.24, MariaDB 10.11, PostgreSQL 16
  • Updated components: Git 2.43.0, Git LFS 3.4.1

Security updates

  • libkcapi 1.4.0 introduces new tools and the -T switch, which allows the name of the target file to be specified in hash calculations.
  • Stunnel 5.71 changes the behaviour of OpenSSL 1.1 and later versions in FIPS mode, and supports modern PostgreSQL clients.
  • OpenSSL has been given API-level protection against Bleichenbacher-type attacks during RSA PKCS #1 v1.5 decryption.

Support for older hardware

Like AlmaLinux, CloudLinux 8.10 also restores the PCI identifiers of devices that have been disabled in the upstream kernel, meaning that RAID controllers and cards on older servers remain recognisable. The affected drivers are: aacraid, be2iscsi, be2net, hpsa, lpfc, megaraid_sas, mlx4_core, mpt3sas, mptsas, qla2xxx and qla4xxx. The full list can be found in the hardware support section of the AlmaLinux 8.10 release notes.

Installation and updates

CloudLinux OS 8.10 can be installed on a new server from an ISO image, or an existing AlmaLinux 8.10 server can be converted to CloudLinux 8.10 (see our article on installing CloudLinux OS). CloudLinux rolled out the update from version 8.9 gradually over a 14-day period; those who did not wish to wait could update as follows:

dnf --enablerepo=cloudlinux-rollout-4-bypass install cloudlinux-release
dnf update

Following its release, 8.10 was added to the main repository; since then, running dnf update on its own has been sufficient.

PHP 8.2 can be enabled via the module system as follows:

dnf module reset php
dnf module install php:8.2

How long will support continue, and what’s the next step?

CloudLinux OS 8 will receive updates until 31 May 2029 (see our article on the CloudLinux lifecycle). Until then, it is worth planning your migration to CloudLinux 9, which is supported until 2032. We have outlined the steps for an in-place upgrade in our guide ‘Upgrading CloudLinux from 8 to 9 using ELevate’. Previous releases in the 8 series:

Our cPanel hosting plans run on CloudLinux, and it can also be installed as an operating system on our KVM VPS servers.
