.EU price increase – the first since 2006

EURid, the non-profit central registry organisation for the .eu extension, sets its fees in accordance with the costs incurred, as stipulated in its contract with the European Commission.

As announced at the registry’s annual general meeting on 17 November 2022, Eurid will be increasing prices for .EU domains from 1 January 2023, citing rising operating costs. This is the first price increase since the launch of the .eu domain in 2006.

The price increase of approximately 7 per cent (in euros) affects the registration, renewal, transfer and activation fees for .eu, .ею and .ευ domain names, meaning that the fees for all domain-related operations will rise.

Statistics on the .EU extension

Across Europe, the .EU extension enjoys a relatively stable level of recognition, with just under 4 million active domain names currently registered under this extension. In May–June 2022, based on 200,000 randomly selected domain names, it was found that more than 81 per cent of these domains have an active web service (i.e. a website accessible via the domain name). Of these names, more than 68,152 lead to content-rich websites.

Nearly 19 per cent of websites are business sites, whilst 11 per cent relate to IT.
