On 27 May 2026, the CloudLinux team announced the stable release of CloudLinux OS 9.8, which follows the AlmaLinux 9.8 ‘Olive Jaguar’ release published the previous day. The LVE layer, the mod_lsapi module and the PHP, Python and Node.js Selector packages have been recompiled for the new kernel.
Kernel and LVE
- CloudLinux 9.8 uses the AlmaLinux kernel without modification: 5.14.0-687.5.3.el9_8. This also includes the fix that prevents systemd and the
pscommand from using an excessive amount of processor time when terminating processes. - The LVE kernel module: kmod-lve-2.1-63.el9, compiled for the new kernel ABI, with Secure Boot support.
- According to the announcement, the security fixes from kernel updates released earlier this year (including those for the Dirty Frag and Copy Fail vulnerabilities) are also included.

CloudLinux 9.8 is only available for the x86_64 (Intel/AMD) architecture; the hardware requirements are the same as for previous CloudLinux 9 releases. The full list of changes can be found in the AlmaLinux 9.8 release notes and the CloudLinux changelog.
Installation and updates
It can be installed on a new server from the CloudLinux 9.8 ISO image, whilst an existing AlmaLinux 9.8 system can be converted using the cldeploy script (see our article on installing CloudLinux OS). The cloudlinux-release package will be rolled out gradually over two weeks from version 9.7, after which the usual dnf update command will update the system. For an immediate update, the announcement provided the following (it is worth checking the name of the rollout repository against the announcement, as cloudlinux-rollout-9-bypass was used for version 9.7):
dnf --enablerepo=cloudlinux-rollout-8-bypass install cloudlinux-release
dnf update
CloudLinux 9 users with an active subscription can upgrade to version 9.8 at no extra cost.
How long is it supported for?
CloudLinux 9 follows the RHEL 9 lifecycle, with full support lasting until 2032 (see our article on the CloudLinux lifecycle). Previous releases in the 9 series:
- CloudLinux OS 9 (January 2023)
- CloudLinux OS 9.2 (May 2023)
- CloudLinux OS 9.3 (November 2023)
- CloudLinux OS 9.4 (May 2024)
- CloudLinux OS 9.5 (November 2024)
- CloudLinux OS 9.6 (May 2025)
- CloudLinux OS 9.7 (November 2025)
CloudLinux OS 10.2 was released the day before.
Our cPanel hosting plans run on CloudLinux, and it can also be installed as an operating system on our KVM VPS servers.
