On 22 May 2023, the CloudLinux OS team announced the release of version 9.2 for servers without a control panel and those using a custom control panel. The release is based on AlmaLinux 9.2 and introduces a number of changes and features. This iteration simplifies the deployment of workloads, applications and services across different environments, whilst making them easier to manage with less time and effort. Users can also expect enhanced security tools, such as the realmd system role, the SCAP profile and Ansible content, as well as more efficient system audits to ensure better security management and stricter compliance with regulatory requirements. Version 9.2 also improves application performance with updated compilers, runtime languages, databases and web servers.

The main changes are as follows
- The LVE kernel module: kmod-lve-2.1-15
- Updated module streams:
- Python 3.11
- nginx 1.22
- PostgreSQL 15
PostgreSQL 15, for example, can be installed from the module system as follows:
dnf module reset postgresql
dnf module install postgresql:15
Restrictions on non-panel-based and custom-panel-based solutions
In a non-panel-based environment, CloudLinux guaranteed all the features of the following CloudLinux Shared components:
- LVE limits
- LVE Stats
- MySQL Governor
- CageFS
- PHP Selector
- HardenedPHP
- Apache mod_lsapi PRO
Due to integration limitations with certain control panels, CloudLinux is unable to retrieve information relating to the control panel (e.g. the list of domains in use or the list of administrators). As a result, the following components were unavailable:
- PHP X-Ray
- Slow Site Analyzer
- Website Monitoring Tool
- Ruby selector
- Centralised Monitoring
The Solo and Admin editions of CloudLinux OS are limited to one and five users respectively at the user interface level, and may not function as expected.
For custom control panel installations, once integration with CloudLinux components has been configured, the following components will function within the CloudLinux OS 9.2 environment:
- LVE limits
- LVE Stats
- MySQL Governor
- CageFS
- PHP Selector
- HardenedPHP
- Python Selector
- Node.js Selector
- Apache mod_lsapi PRO
- PHP X-Ray
- Slow Site Analyzer
- Reseller limits
Control panel support
At that time, the CloudLinux team was working to make CloudLinux OS 9.2 available on popular control panels: cPanel, Plesk and DirectAdmin. Support for cPanel was finally introduced with CloudLinux OS 9.3, starting with cPanel version 11.116.0.1.
Installation and updates
CloudLinux OS 9.2 can be installed on a new server from an ISO image, or an existing AlmaLinux 9.2 server can be converted to CloudLinux 9.2 (see our article on installing CloudLinux OS). For existing CloudLinux 9 systems, the CloudLinux team has gradually rolled out the cloudlinux-release package containing the 9.2 repository settings; since then, dnf update has been updating to the latest point release of the 9 series.
How long is it supported for?
CloudLinux OS 9 will receive updates until 31 May 2032 (see our article on the CloudLinux lifecycle). Further releases in the 9 series:
- CloudLinux OS 9 (January 2023)
- CloudLinux OS 9.3 (November 2023)
- CloudLinux OS 9.4 (May 2024)
- CloudLinux OS 9.5 (November 2024)
- CloudLinux OS 9.6 (May 2025)
- CloudLinux OS 9.7 (November 2025)
- CloudLinux OS 9.8 (May 2026)
Our cPanel hosting plans run on CloudLinux, and it can also be installed as an operating system on our KVM VPS servers.
