CloudLinux OS 9.7 has been released

2 min read

On 18 November 2025, one day after the release of AlmaLinux 9.7, the CloudLinux team announced the stable release of CloudLinux OS 9.7. The most significant new feature is support for post-quantum encryption, alongside updates to compilers, runtime environments and networking tools.

Kernel and LVE

  • Kernel version: 5.14.0-611.5.1.el9
  • LVE kernel module: kmod-lve-2.1-54.el9

Post-quantum encryption

  • The system-level encryption policies (crypto-policies) have been updated with a new PQ sub-policy for algorithms designed to protect against quantum computers.
  • OpenSSL 3.5 supports the ML-KEM, ML-DSA and SLH-DSA algorithms, and has included the hybrid ML-KEM key exchange amongst the default TLS suites.
  • SSSD (2.9.7) and Keylime (7.12.1) have been updated.

Here’s how to enable the sub-policy alongside the default one:

update-crypto-policies --set DEFAULT:PQ

Installation and updates

CloudLinux OS 9.7 can be installed on a new server from an ISO image, or an existing AlmaLinux 9.7 server can be converted (see our article on installing CloudLinux OS). CloudLinux rolled out the update from version 9.6 gradually over a two-week period; anyone who didn’t want to wait could update as follows:

dnf --enablerepo=cloudlinux-rollout-9-bypass install cloudlinux-release
dnf update

Once installed, simply running dnf update is sufficient.

How long is it supported for?

CloudLinux OS 9 will receive updates until 31 May 2032 (see our article on the CloudLinux lifecycle). Further releases in the 9 series:

We wrote about the point release of the 10 series released in the same month in our article on CloudLinux OS 10.1.

Our cPanel hosting plans run on CloudLinux, and it can also be installed as an operating system on our KVM VPS servers.
