Setting up email in the iPhone and Android Mail apps

Email 2 min read

You can set up your own domain email address on most smartphones in just a few minutes, so you can access your emails whilst on the move. Below, we explain how to set this up on iPhone and Android using IMAP.

What will you need?

  • Your email address and password.
  • For the details of the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) servers. On cPanel hosting, you can find these in the Email Accounts menu, on the **‘Connect **Devices’ page next to your account, tailored specifically to your account:
  Incoming (IMAP) Outgoing (SMTP)
Server mail.<az Ön domainje> or the server address mail.<az Ön domainje> or the server address
Port 993, SSL/TLS 465, SSL/TLS
Username the full email address the full email address

iPhone and iPad: the easiest way

On the cPanel Connect Devices page, if you download the iOS for IMAP configuration profile directly onto your phone (in Safari), the account will be set up automatically: after downloading, open the Settings app, tap the ‘Profile downloaded’ line at the top, then tap the ‘Install’ button, and enter your email account password.

iPhone and iPad: manual setup

  1. Open the Settings app. From iOS 18 onwards, go to Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts; on older versions of iOS, go to Mail > Accounts.
  2. Tap on ‘New account (Add account)’ > ‘Other’ > ‘Add email account’.
  3. Enter your name, email address, password and a description, then click the Next button.
  4. Select the IMAP option and enter the details for the incoming and outgoing servers as shown in the table above (the username for both is your full email address).
  5. Tap the Save button.

Android (Gmail app)

In the Gmail app, tap your profile picture, select ‘Add another account’ (or ‘Add email address’ on a phone without an account), then select ‘Other’ and choose the ‘Personal (IMAP)’ option. A detailed guide with screenshots and videos on setting up Gmail on Android is available here.

On Samsung phones, you can also use the pre-installed Samsung Email app: under ‘Add account’ > ‘Other’, enter the same details and select ‘Manual setup’.

If it isn’t working

  • Incorrect password: please try logging into webmail using the same details.
  • The certificate error is reported: the server name does not match the certificate; the article on certificate errors in email clients may help.
  • You cannot send emails, but you can receive them: please check that authentication is also enabled on the outgoing server.

When using IMAP, your emails remain on the server and are synchronised across all your devices. The same configuration profile can be used on a Mac; the steps are outlined in the guide on setting up Apple Mail on a Mac. We cover the differences between POP and IMAP in more detail in a separate article.
