The .africa extension has been available for registration since 2017. It was established with the support of the African Union, and its registry is managed by ZA Central Registry (ZACR) in South Africa. Its aim is to provide the continent with a common online identifier, regardless of national borders.

It’s a good choice if your business operates in several African countries, if you sell to the African market, or if you’re launching a travel, cultural, civil society or educational project linked to the continent. With a single .africa extension, you can reach the entire region without having to choose a separate country-code extension for each country.

How long will it take to be ready?

New domain registration

The registration of .africa domains is an automated process, so registration is virtually instantaneous; you can start using your new domain name within a few minutes of placing your order.

Domain transfer

To transfer your existing .africa domain name to us, you will need to disable transfer protection with your current registrar and obtain the authorisation (Auth) code for the domain. The transfer process may take up to 5 days.

How many characters can it be?

The domain name extension in .africa must be at least 3 and no more than 63 characters long.

Special characters

With the .africa domain extension, special (accented) characters cannot be used in the domain name.

Restrictions

Anyone can register a .africa domain name, regardless of nationality or place of business, and without any particular restrictions. Domain names are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Whois privacy

The Whois privacy service is available to both individuals and companies, and hides some of the owner’s details in the public Whois database.
