The .no extension is Norway’s country code top-level domain, administered by Norid (Norsk register for internettdomener). The first .no domain names were registered in 1987.
.no domain names are particularly popular amongst businesses and organisations operating in Norway; there are currently nearly one million registered .no domain names.

How long will it take to be ready?
New domain registration
The registration of .no domains is an automated process; if the required Norwegian organisation number or personal identification number is available, registration is virtually instantaneous. Otherwise, Norid may carry out a manual check, which may take a few days.
Domain transfer
To transfer your existing .no domain name to us, you will need to disable transfer protection with your current registrar and obtain the authorisation (Auth) code for the domain. The transfer process usually takes a few days.
How many characters can it be?
The domain name extension in .no must be at least 2 characters long and no more than 63 characters long.
Special characters
The .no domain extension supports the following special characters, corresponding to the accented letters of the Norwegian language:
æ ø å é è ê ü
Restrictions
To register a .no domain, you must be an organisation with a Norwegian organisation number (organisasjonsnummer) or a private individual with a Norwegian personal identification number (fødselsnummer). In practice, this means that the .no domain is primarily available to organisations registered in Norway and Norwegian residents.
Whois privacy
Due to the public nature of the Norwegian Business Register, organisations’ registration details are generally publicly available; in the case of private individuals, however, protection of certain personal data may be requested.
