The .us domain extension is the country code top-level domain for the United States of America. .us is one of the oldest domain extensions on the internet: it was delegated in 1985, at the same time as the .com, .org and .net extensions. The registry is currently operated by Registry Services, LLC, under the supervision of the US Department of Commerce (NTIA).
.us domain names are particularly popular amongst businesses and individuals with links to the United States; there are currently more than one and a half million registered .us domain names.
