The .in extension is India’s country code top-level domain, administered by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI). Although the .in extension was delegated as early as 1989, public, unrestricted registration only became available in 2005, following a liberalisation reform.
Since liberalisation, the popularity of .in domain names has grown rapidly, and there are now several million registered .in domain names, which are becoming increasingly popular not only in India but also internationally.
.in domain prices
| Extension | Registration | Transfer | Renewal |
|---|---|---|---|
| .in | €8.50 | €8.20 | €8.50 |
Prices are quoted for one year and do not include VAT. The free transfer does not include a renewal; the fee for the paid transfer usually includes a one-year renewal.
How long will it take to be ready?
New domain registration
The registration of .in domains is an automated process, so registration is virtually instantaneous; you can start using your new domain name within a few minutes of placing your order.
Domain transfer
To transfer your existing .in domain name to us, you will need to disable transfer protection with your current registrar and obtain the authorisation (Auth) code for the domain. The transfer process usually takes a few days.
How many characters can it be?
The domain name with the .in extension must be at least 2 and no more than 63 characters long.
Special characters
The .in extension supports the standard Latin alphabet (a–z), numbers and hyphens. India’s numerous official languages and scripts (e.g. Devanagari) have their own dedicated IDN ccTLD extensions; these are not part of the .in extension.
Restrictions
Since the liberalisation in 2005, anyone can register a .in domain name, regardless of nationality or place of business, without any particular restrictions.
Whois privacy
The availability of the WHOIS privacy service may vary from one registrar to another; it is advisable to check this before placing an order.
